Smithland, Iowa- Arthur Raymond Worrell, 80, of Smithland died of cancer Monday, July 31, 2000, at his residence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa, with LeRoy Struble officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland, with military rites conducted by American Legion Leslie Seaton Post 666 of Smithland. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today with prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Worrell was born May 10, 1920, in Salix, Iowa, the son of Raymond Charles and Abbie Laura (Madsen) Worrell. He served in the Army during World War II, in England.

He married Mollie Day on March 28, 1994, in England. Following his discharge, the couple lived in the Smithland, Oto and Mapleton, Iowa area. He farmed and worked road construction.

He enjoyed horses and was a member of the Mapleton and Smithland Saddle Clubs. He enjoyed playing cards.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sheryl Snell of Omaha, Terry Brace and Fred Daughtry of Wayland, Iowa, and Melinda and her husband, Dennis Namanny of Mapleton; two sons and their wives, Jerry and Elizabeth and Kerry and Merilyn, all of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Horner of Mapleton and Margaret Bueoy of Onawa, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Danny Lee; and infant grandson, Jerry Arthur Worrell Jr.; and two brothers, Pete and Casey.
