Martin V. Wilde, 77, of Sioux City died Sunday, July 20, 1997, in a Sioux City hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark Lutheran Church with Rev. John Hagberg officiating. Burial with military rites by American legion Post 624 of Cushing, Iowa, will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today with prayer service at 7 p.m. at the church. Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wilde was born June 9, 1920, in West Point, Neb., the son of Fred and Mary (Schultz) Wilde. As a young child he moved with his family to a farm between Homer and Emerson, Neb. At age 13 the family moved to the Sioux City and Hinton Iowa, area. He lived in the Hinton area until his military service in the United States Navy during World War II.
He married Roberta A. Adel on Feb. 14, 1942, in South Sioux City. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1946.
He was employed as a farmer, then an utility contractor with his own firm for many years.
He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran church, the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 580 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 54, both of Sioux City, and the American Legion Post 624 of Cushing.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rhonda and her husband, Frank Ostrihonsky, and Kathy Henrichsen, all of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Michael and Sandra and Lon and Sharon, all of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin Wilde of Sioux City; two sisters and their husbands, Betty and Edward Jauques and Shirley and Francis Wickey, all of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and two sisters.
Memorials may be directed to St. Mark Lutheran Church of Siouxland Cancer Center.
