Salix, Iowa- Walter Earl Scott, 79, a former mayor of Salix, died of cancer, Sunday, March 26, 2000, at his residence in Salix.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic church in Salix, with the Rev.Donald J. Slaven officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion George M. Nelson Post 662 of Sergeant Bluff. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil Scriptural service at 7 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Services in Onawa, Iowa.

Mr. Scott was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Climbing Hill, Iowa, the son of William L. and Della Mae (Sarver) Scott.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Pauline C. Welte on February 24, 1943, in Danbury, Iowa.

He was employed in sales and delivery with Ray V. Mitchell Beer Distributer Co. He also owned and operated Jiffy Coffee Shop in Sioux City. He owned and operated the I-29 Fina Station for nine years and E & W. Trailor Court in Salix.

He served two terms as mayor and two terms as city councilman for Salix.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Teamsters Local 383 and American Legion George M. Nelson Post 662.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kay Frances Scott and Mary and her husband, Duane Herbst, all of Salix; four sons, Michael of Maywood, Nebraska, Paul and his wife, Cyndy, Dennis and Edwin and his wife, Rachelle, all of Salix; twin sister and brother, Darlene DeLaughter of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Darrell Scott of Sacramento, California and 13 grandchildren, Charles Rethman, Honore Carlson, Abby, Walker, Robert, Samantha, Kayla, Andrew and Gregory Scott and Dr. David, Nathan, Kamy and James Herbst.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Waneta McLarty; twin brother and sister, Wayne and Wanda, and a brother, William.
