MOVILLE, Iowa | James L. Phillips, 71, of Moville, formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at home, after a brave battle against cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville, with the Rev. Barb Spaulding officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Arrangements are with McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville.

James was born on Nov. 17, 1943, in Sioux City, the son of Glenn and Lila (Cohn) Phillips. He attended school in Sioux City, graduating from Central High School. Jim joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War.

During the years, Jim had worked at Floyd Valley Packing as a supervisor, and drove semi over the road. After returning, he worked for CPS in Moville and Steve Bliel.

Jim played softball for several different Siouxland teams. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan, especially watching the Twins.

Survivors include a daughter, Lori (Steve) Jennings of Spencer, Iowa; a son, Coulton Phillips of Moorhead, Minn.; three grandchildren, Jon (Bailey) Jennings, Alex Jennings and Haley Jennings; three brothers, Mick (Ruth) Phillips of Chico, Calif., Joseph (Vicky) Phillips of Moville, and Richard (Bobi) Phillips of West Point, Neb.; special friend, Mary Ernst of Moorhead, Iowa; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rachelle Phillips; a sister, Judy; and a brother, Donny.
