Betty Marie Griffith, 78, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, in Fort Myers.

Services were held in Florida. Memorial services and burial will be at a later date in St. Alban's Church in Okoboji, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Home in Fort Myers.

Mrs. Griffith was born April 7, 1922, in Kalamazoo, Mich., the daughter of Orlie and Ida Harrelson. She moved with her family to Paw Paw, Mich., as a child. She attended Owosso Public Schools and graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. She took graduate courses at the University of Michigan.

She married Frank Wells Griffith on Sept. 12, 1945, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sioux City until 1986, when they moved to Sanibel Island, Fla. In April 1988, they moved to Fort Myers. They would spend summers in Lake Okoboji.

Survivors include three sons, Dr. Clark Wells Griffith of Dallas, Steven Harrelson Griffith of Sioux City, and Dr. Jon Lance Griffith of Spokane, Wash.; eight grandchildren, Jason, Alicia, Matthew, Jennifer, Christopher, Leslie, Katie and Colin; a sister, Jean Harrelson; and two brothers, Frederick and William Harrelson.

Memorials may be directed to St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
