29 March 2008ANTHON, Iowa -- Shirley A. Todd, 69, of Anthon was called to heaven Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Midway, rural Battle Creek, Iowa, with the Rev. Andrew Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.
Shirley Ann Albers, the daughter of Meinhard and Eva (Lent) Albers, was born Jan. 5, 1939, in Danbury, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Battle Creek. She graduated from Correctionville (Iowa) High School with the class of 1957.
On June 1, 1958, she was united in marriage to Wilbur Todd. They lived on a farm near Anthon their entire married life. This union was blessed with four children.
She was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a member of Sunnyside Club. She enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers, sewing and cooking. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She loved them dearly and had a special place for each of them in her heart.
Left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of almost 50 years, Wilbur; three sons and their wives, Michael and Patti of Alta, Iowa, Brian and JoAnn of Newcastle, Neb., and Kevin and Brenda of Anthon; a daughter and her husband, Anita and Robert Coutal of Omaha; seven grandsons, Brett Coutal and his fiancee, Abby, Austin Coutal, Jason, Jake, Brandon and Loren Todd and Riley McDonald; six granddaughters, Danielle and her husband, Cyril Tanderup, Amanda Coutal, Cassie, Katie, Rachel and Morgan Todd; a great-grandson, Cael; three brothers, Richard of Battle Creek, Iowa, Donald and his wife, Marcia of Jewell, Iowa, and Robert and his wife, Diane of Fergus Falls, Minn.; a sister and her husband, Betty and Everett Jensen of Spirit Lake, Iowa; a very special friend, Rhonda Steinhoff; many nieces and nephews; and a large group of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters-in-law, Sandra and Agnes Albers; and a niece and nephew.
Shirley touched many lives and will always be remembered for her kindness to everyone.
