27 November 1999Laurence "Larry" Dunning, 82, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Sioux City after a lengthy illness.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Dunning was born Sept. 24, 1917 at Norfolk, Neb., the son of George and Alta (Katasabek) Dunning. He marrield Pearl Toedt Dec. 19, 1945, at Sioux City.
He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. He worked for Holtz Construction in Sioux City for many years and was a member of Laborers Union No. 427 and Laborers International Union of North America.
He was a staff sergeant in the 7th Signal Company of the U.S. Army from Sept. 4, 1942 until Nov. 19, 1945 during World War II. He served in the Aleutian Islands, Bismark Archipelago, Southern Philippines and Ryukyus.
He is survived by his wife; two sons: Don and Judy Dunning of Lawton and Gary Dunning of Sioux City; a daughter, Linda Quaid of Sioux City; a brother: Robert and Betty Bowers of Sioux City; four granddaughters: Robin Sorbe, Heather Dunning, Sarah Dunning and Sandra Wright; a grandson: Chad Dunning; and a sister in law: Cleo Bowers of Alcester, S.D.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and neices, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Bill Bowers, Elmer Dunning and Tip Dunning.
