11 March 1999Russel W. Bartels, 91, of Littleton, Colo., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Services were held Monday, March 8, at West Bowles Community Church in Littleton.
Mr. Bartels was born Feb. 10, 1908, in Carroll, Neb. He received his doctorate of law degree from the University of Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Army as a World War II war crimes investigator and prosecutor. He was present at the Nuremberg trials.
He married Anna Christina Clodius on Dec. 10, 1954. He practiced law for 63 years, first in Sioux City and later in the Denver, Colo. and San Diego, Calif., areas.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Christopher of Lakewood, Colo.; two daughters and their husbands, Russana and Dan Pott of Lakewood and Rebecca and Ed McSwain of Foxfield, Colo.; six grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ella Bartels of Laurel, Neb.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lester.
Memorials may be directed to Sudan Fund in care of West Bowles Community Church in Littleton.
