7 January 1999Mabel Hansel, 93, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at her residence following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mrs. Hansel was born Aug. 9, 1905, in Soldier, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Carrie (Gilbertson) Halverson. She moved to Sioux City in 1924.
She married Wesley J. Hansel on April 4, 1925, in Elk Point, S.D. He died May 31, 1983, in Sioux City.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and enjoyed knitting and reading.
Survivors include a daughter, Pauline Weber of Sioux City; a granddaughter, whom she raised, Sherry and her husband, Norman Yanacheak, of Anthon, Iowa; a brother, Henry Halverson of Chicago Heights, Ill.; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Rasmussen and Effie Clay; and two brothers, Guy and Helmer Halverson.
Pallbearers will be Paul Yanacheak, Robert Keairns, Richard Clay, Bill and Russell Rasmussen and Michael Hansel.
