Lu Verne J. Brophy, 53, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon, Iowa. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. with Arnie Delgado officiating, at Berkemier Funeral Home in Sioux City.

Mrs. Brophy was born Jan. 14, 1945, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Charlotte (Nixon) Brock. She graduated from Sioux Rapids Consolidated High School in 1964. She moved to Sioux City in 1968.

She married James J. Brophy in 1974, in Elk Point, S.D. He died June 3, 1986. She was employed as a nurse's aide at a Storm Lake, Iowa, nursing home and then at Truck Haven in Sioux City for several years. She was employed as a cook at Evergreen Truck Stop for 10 years.

She was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Brophy of Sioux City; and two half brothers, Dean and his wife, Melva, Brock of Storm Lake and Don Brock of Sioux Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Sylvia Brock.

Pallbearers will be Larry Harper Jr., Edward Hardy, Doug and David Mobely, Mike Visotski, Paul Desy and Bob Pulju.
