11 January 1999Caroline C. "Kelly" Rainbow, 87, of Sioux City, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at a Sioux City nursing home after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa, with Monsignor Russell M. Bleich, pastor of St. Edward's, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Waterloo. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. A parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil, pastor of the Church of the Nativity, officiating. The body will be taken to Waterloo where there will be a visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service, West Ridgeway in Waterloo.
Mrs. Rainbow was born March 27, 1911, in Auburn, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Smith) Rauch. She earned a two-year teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
She married James J. Rainbow on June 20, 1938, in Auburn, Iowa. He died on Jan. 18, 1994, in Sioux City. She lived in Cedar Falls and Waterloo from 1938 until 1991, when she moved to Sioux City. She taught in the Catholic schools in Waterloo.
She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Waterloo until 1991, where she was a member of the St. Francis Auxiliary and the Legion of Mary. While living in Sioux City, she was a member of the Church of the Nativity.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Bell and her husband, Dick, of Sioux City and Jane McKenna and her husband, Dr. Rob, of Dallas; two sons, Michael Rainbow of Pacific Grove, Calif., and Patrick Rainbow and his wife, Jean, of Minneapolis; three sisters, Rita Crosby of Omaha, Sybilla Skarolid of Vista, Calif., and Betty Nixon of Pacific Grove, Calif; nine grandchildren, Suzie Kirwan, Katie Norys, Patrick McKenna, Michael Bell, Meghan Mullin, Tim McKenna, Molly McKenna, Chris Rainbow and Kaitlyn Rainbow, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
Pallbearers will be Michael Bell, Chris Rainbow, Patrick McKenna, Tim McKenna, Jerry Mullin, Dan Kirwan, Ron Norys and Nicholas Norys
