Robert D. Haggblade, 78, of South Sioux City, died unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at South Sioux City.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church at South Sioux City, with the Rev. E.D. Pappadackis officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Funeral Home at Sioux City.

Mr. Haggblade was born June 20, 1920, at Sioux City to Eugene Theodore and Lillian (Smith) Haggblade. He graduated from Bronson High School and the NBT Business College at Sioux City. He married Virginia Mae Pipal on Nov. 25, 1961, at Sioux City. The couple lived in Bronson, Iowa, then moved to Sioux City and then to South Sioux City. He worked at Merchants Investment Company, Nebraska State Bank, and Petit Construction Company.

He was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church at South Sioux City, a member of the Moose Lodge, a past member of the Le Mars and Sioux City Barbershop Chorus and the American Legion Post 307. He served in the U.S. Army, European Theater during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Nancy and Kent Davidson of Chicago, Ill.; and a brother and his wife, Berle and Elisabeth of Clovis, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers include Richard Leitschuck, Timm Banks, Gerry Heitschusen, Dwaine Oban, Phil Slavens, and Russell Warnock
