Shirley M. Bates, 81, of Sioux City died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. John Hantla, of Goodwill Industries, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bates was born Oct. 17, 1918, at Sioux City, the daughter of Sydney and Lydia (Long) Nyreen. She attended Central High School.

She married Earl E. Bates on Feb. 10, 1945, at Fremont, Neb. He died March 17, 1980, in Sioux City.

She worked for over 20 years with WACO, retiring in 1983.

She was a member of Leif Erikson Free Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands: Barbara and Richard Pojunos of Sioux City, Judity and Tony Bride of Sloan, Iowa, Carole and Raf Wilkerson of Texas; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Pallbearers will be David and Tom Bride, Jeff Budde, Greg Ashcraft, Norman Focht and John Bartle.
