Darlene J. Sanders, 80, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Darlene was born Feb. 10, 1928, in Sioux City, the daughter of Jesse J. and Bertha C. (Lorenz) Gereau.

She married Leslie D. Sanders on Feb. 19, 1945, in Elk Point, S.D. He died Nov. 7, 1977, in Sioux City. She was a lifelong Sioux City resident and a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. She participated with her husband as a Shrine clown. In her earlier years, she enjoyed bowling.

Survivors include four children and spouses, Tim and Patricia Sanders of Sioux City, Tony and Jane Sanders of Jefferson, S.D., Leslie Anne and Ron Swift of Olathe, Kan., and Lindy and Jeanie Sanders of Arkansas; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three brothers, Jesse, Richard and Jerry Gereau.

Pallbearers will be Mike Sanders, Mark Sanders, Andrew Sanders, Eric Sanders, Levi Sanders and Shannon Sadler
