Della was born June 19, 1912, in rural Whiting, Iowa, the second oldest siblings of Charlie and Mary Ellen (Watkins) Harvey. She went to country school for several years and to Sloan Public School. After she completed the eighth grade, her family moved to Dakota City, where they farmed.

She married George R. Bean on April 12, 1932, in Dakota City. The couple raised a son, Charles, who was born in 1937. The couple farmed in Dakota County until 1968. George died Oct. 30, 1968, in Sioux City. She moved to South Sioux City the following year and did sewing, ironing and house cleaning for others until she was 85 years old and finally quit driving.

The couple loved to go to farm sales. She never bought anything, but enjoyed the socialization. During the winter months, the couple would upholster furniture. They also raised and dressed 1,000 chickens each year. The family's favorite meal was her homemade chicken and noodles. Over the years, she enjoyed handwork, crocheting, quilting, sewing and embroidering. One year, she won a blue ribbon at the fair for a set of embroidered pillowcases. She was a member of Dakota City United Methodist Church.

The joy of her life had been her son, Charles and his wife, Patricia of Sioux City; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five great-step-grandchildren; and a sister, Eva Harvey of San Leandro, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; three infant sisters; her sisters, Alma Cain, Lela Hansen, Lois Goodsell and Myrna VanDeSteig; and a brother, Glenn Harvey.

Pallbearers will be Doug Hansen, Jim Starks, Leo and Vincent Kramper, Greg Bean and Roger Hansen.
