LAWTON, Iowa | Lucille Genevieve Grigg Rhine, 93, of Lawton died Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville, Iowa.

Lucille was born Feb. 23, 1921, on a farm south of Lawton to Fred and Evelyn (Hegstrom) Grigg. She graduated from Lawton High School in 1939 and then took a business course at National Business Training School in Sioux City.

Lucille worked a short time in Sioux City before taking a Civil Service Test and was called to work in Washington, D.C. in September 1941. She was assigned to work in the Adjutant General’s department. Lucille began as a clerk and later as a supervisor.

She married Herbert Rhine on April 2, 1949, at the Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Md. They lived in Arlington, Va., until 1955 when they moved to Lawton, Iowa. Two children were born, namely, Joyce Marie and Daniel Edgar. Lucille then worked for First Trust and Savings Bank in Lawton for 32 years. She was also the town clerk for more than eight years.

She was an active member of Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton. She loved to play cards, read, bowl and take care of her home.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert of Lawton; daughter, Joyce (Jack) Shumansky of Minneapolis, Minn.; son, Daniel Rhine of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; granddaughter, Jaime Shumansky of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two great-grandchildren, Haley and Aubrey.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, JD Shumansky; and sister, Betty Andrus.
