Funeral Services Held Friday For Alvena C. Smith

Alvena C. Smith, 88, of Anthon died Tuesday, July 26, 1988, at the home of her daughter in Anthon after a long illness.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 29, 1988 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville with the Rev. Roger Semmler officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home in Anthon.

Congregational Hymns were "Rock of Ages" and "Children of the Heavenly Father." Mrs. Betty Rhue was organist.

Casket-bearers were Messrs. Troy German, Gary Brown, Walter Allner, Darin Smith, Rod Brown and Larry Allner.

Mrs. Smith, the former Alvena Allner, was born October 25, 1899, the daughter of Charles and Caroline Hasse Allner, in Woodbury County. She married George Smith December 11, 1918, in Sioux City. The couple farmed in the Climbing Hill and Anthon area until 1969 when they retired and moved to Moville. He died March 10, 1978. The last two years, she had lived in Anthon with her daughter.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Moville and the Senior Citizens Group of Moville.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mae Hinds of Anthon and Mrs. Darrell (Lorraine) Smith of Sioux City; a sister, Mrs. Clarence (Emily) Thomas of Correctionville; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son George Jr., three sisters and seven brothers.
