Funeral Services Held Thursday For Walter C. Olson
Funeral services for Walter Clarence Olson, 80, of Lawton, were held Thursday, July 28, 1988 at 1:30 p.m. in the Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton. The Rev. Merle Lebahn officiated. Interment was in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton, under the direction of the Dickison-Michaelson Funeral Home of Kingsley.
Mrs. Betty Rhue, organist, accompanied the Congregation singing "Just As I Am," "I Heard The Voice of Jesus Saying" and "The Lord's Prayer."
Honorary casket-bearers were grandsons and grandsons-in-laws: Gary and Greg Smith, Stan Unkrich, Mark Schweitzberger, Stan Haugen, Gregg Roepke, Stuart Nitzschke, Brian Friesner and Steven Ploen.
Mr. Olson was born August 11, 1907, at rural Hinton, the son of Hans and Marie (Beck) Olson. He attended rural school in the Hinton area and then moved to Sioux City where he attended Hawthorne School in Leeds and Central High School. He married Lillian Hageman May 21, 1928, in Sioux City. The couple farmed for more than 50 years in the Lawton area, retiring in 1973.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
Mr. Olson died Monday, July 25, 1988 at his residence in Lawton.
Survivors include his wife; one son Virgil of Moville; three daughters, Mrs. Doyle (Virginia) Smith of Lawton, Mrs. Kenneth (Minnetta) Schweitzberger of Kingsley and Marlis Friesner of Sioux City; a sister, Mrs. Kate Hinrichs of Sioux City; ten grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.
