NORTH SIOUX CITY — Lester E. "Whitey" Christiansen, 69, of North Sioux City, died Wednesday in a Sioux City hospital after a sudden illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Robert P. Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Berkemier Funeral Home. There will be a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Mr. Christiansen was born July 30, 1918, in Gayville, S.D., and moved to Sioux City when he was a child. He married Lorraine Bernard on Oct. 16, 1939, at Jefferson, S.D. The couple made their home in Sioux City until moving to North Sioux City in 1945. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was employed by American Freight Co. until retiring in 1980.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Teamsters Union Local 383.
Survivors include his wife; five sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Joan of Jefferson, Randy and Linda of Jefferson, and Ray and Nola, Mike and Pat, and Bill and Terri, all of Sioux City; five daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Dick Connors and Marlene and Dave Fornia, all of Jefferson, Christine and Jim Nelson of North Sioux City, Gail and Chuck Schoepf of South Sioux City, and Tammy and Kirk Estergaard of Omaha; three brothers, Mose and Don of Reno, Nev., and Dutch of North Sioux City; three sisters, Laura Breedlove of San Diego, Calif., Betty Frazier of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Janice Bristol of North Sioux City; 26 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
