24 June 1983HORNICK, Iowa — Rollin E. Carlson, 55, of Hornick died Thursday in a Sioux City hospital after a six-month illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. John Lutheran Church in Climbing Hill. The Rev. Walter Resner and Chaplain Marvin Suhr will officiate. Burial will be in the Little Sioux Cemetery at Smithland. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Mr. Carlson was born March 9, 1928, at Castana. He married Barbara Schumann July 8, 1951, in Smithland. They farmed in Anthon, Smithland, Oto and Climbing Hill area.
Mr. Carlson was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he served as an elder. He was president of the local chapter of Aid Association for Lutherans and was an FHA committeeman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and helped form the Little League and softball teams in Climbing Hill.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Brian of Fort Dodge, Barry of Aurelia and Jim of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one daughter, Laura at home; his father, William of Smithland; one sister, Mrs. Max (Marjorie) Smith of Rodney, and one grandson.
