14 April 2014SIOUX CITY | Lester L. Closner, 96, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away April 13, 2014, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Des Moines. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Calvary Cemetery at Sioux City.
Lester was born April 29, 1917, in Lawton, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Josephine (Richardson) Closner. He graduated from Lawton High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945.
He worked for F.W. Means Company for 45 years before retiring in 1982. On June 9, 1951, he was united in marriage to Margaret Walding in Sioux City.
Lester was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Des Moines, and enjoyed golf, bowling, the Chicago Cubs and traveling with his family.
Lester is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Richard (Marcy) Closner of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Margaret Closner of Des Moines; three grandchildren; a great grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Clarence, Arthur and Robert.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Theresa Catholic Church, in memory of Lester.
