Funeral Services Held Friday For B. Ellwood Norton
Funeral services for B. Elwood Norton, 79, of Lawton, retired Lawton School superintendent, teacher, principal and businessman, were held Friday September 22, 1989 at 10:30 a.m. in the Lawton Community Presbyterian Church. Dr. Robert E. Peters officiated. Interment was in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton, under the direction of the McCulloch Funeral Home of Moville. A Masonic service was held Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. by Moville Trial Lodge 532 AF&AM at the funeral home.
Ruby Wilson was organist. Selections I sung by the Lawton Community Presbyterian Church Choir were "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond The Sunset."
Honorary casket-bearers were Messrs. Wayne Goodwin, George Coker, Lewis Shoemaker, Art Wilson, Irvin Ludwig and Tom Grigg.
Casket-bearers were Messrs. Don Grigg, Terry Goodwin, Ken Eyres, Tom Lang, Kevin Willer and Jim Willer.
Mr. Norton was born June 27, 1910, in Algona, Iowa, the son of Burton and Nettie Edmonds Norton, and moved to Lawton in 1932. He received a bachelor's degree from Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) in industrial arts. He married Mildred Ruth Schneider June 24, 1936, in Wheatland, Iowa. He taught industrial arts at Lawton School from 1932 - 1947. He was principal from 1938 - 1940, and superintendent from 1940 - 1947. In 1948 he purchased and operated the Lawton Hardware Store, retiring in 1972.
He was a member of Lawton Community Presbyterian Church where he had served as a trustee and choir member. He was a member of Moville Trial Lodge 532 AF&AM and past member of the Lawton Fire Department and Lawton City Council.
