LAWTON, Iowa — Ray A. Strong, 97, of Lawton, died Friday, Oct. 13, 1989 in a Sioux City nursing home after a long illness.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Graceland Park Cemetery, with Dr. Robert E. Peters of Lawton Community Presbyterian Church officiating. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, with family present until 5 p.m.at Christy Morningside Funeral Home.

Mr. Strong was born May 15, 1892 in Climbing Hill. He married Hattie E. Allen Dec. 15, 1915 in Bronson. He farmed at Sergeant Bluff and Salix, then moved to Lawton in 1944 to operate a grocery store. He later returned to farming in rural Lawton. Mrs. Strong died May 17, 1988 at her home in Lawton.

He was a baseball fan, and played for several area teams. He was an avid gardener.

Survivors include a son, Raymond of Bronson; a daughter, Eleanor Armstrong of Mason City, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister and eight brothers.
