Memorial Services Held For Jay W. Malcolm
Jay W. Malcolm, 74, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Wednesday, July 5, 1989.
Mr. Malcolm's remains were cremated. Memorial services were Saturday, July 8, 1989, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church's Gollaher Chapel. The Rev. Vernon Schroeder officiated. Apfel-Butler Geddes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Malcolm was born September 9, 1914, in Woodbury County, Iowa, the son of Robert F. and Grace M. Thomson Malcolm. He grew up and received his education at Moville, Iowa, graduating from high school there in 1932. He entered the U.S. Army in August 1942.
He married Mildred Wimmer in June 1943, while serving at the POW camp in Scottsbluff. In 1945 he was stationed at the United Nations Conference in San Francisco, California, as a military policeman.
After his discharge they returned to Nebraska where he was engaged in various occupations. He later owned and operated a bulk milk delivery operation, serving Fairacres Dairy. He also had been a custodian for the Grand Island school system. He retired in 1979.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Roger of Lincoln; a brother, Dean of Akron, Iowa; and two sisters, Mrs. Jean Scott of Corona, California and Mrs. Tony (Lee) Beyer of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by a sister, June.
