Funeral Services Held Saturday For John G. Lohse
Funeral services for John G. Lohse, 79, of Climbing Hill, were held Saturday October 21, 1989 at 1:30 p.m. in St. John Lutheran Church in Climbing Hill. Pastor Leonard Riddle officiated. Interment was in West Fork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill, under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home in Anthon. Military graveside rites were conducted by Hindman-Steele Post #492 American Legion of Hornick.
Message in music: Mrs. Catherine Cox, organist. Quartet: Jack Steinhoff, George Till, Gerald Beckstrom and Dean Unkel.
Casket-bearers were Messrs. Hymie Waddell, George Lohse, Raymond McCoy, Don Wulf, Sylvan Bryan and Dan O'Boyle.
Mr. Lohse was born October 20, 1909, the son of Henry and Anna Bierwirth Lohse, in West Fork Township Woodbury County. He married Hazel Spangler November 23, 1935, in Dakota City. The couple farmed in the Moville, Hornick and Climbing Hill areas their entire married life, retiring to Climbing Hill in 1976.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Climbing Hill. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post of Hornick.
Mr. Lohse died unexpectedly Wednesday October 18, 1989 in a Sioux City hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel; a son, John of Seward, Alaska; two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Hayworth of Sergeant Bluff and Mrs. Nick (Norma) Kohlhof of Climbing Hill; two brothers, Henry of Sioux City and Louis of Worthington, Minnesota; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Waddell of Whiting and Mrs. Pauline Green of Dos Palos, California, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
