Funeral Services Held Tuesday For Mrs. Ellis Howard
Funeral services for Mrs. Ellis (Gertrude) Howard, 86, of Lawton, were held Tuesday, March 4, 1986 at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton. Dr. Robert E. Peters officiated. Interment was in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton, under the direction of the McCulloch-Wavrin Funeral Home of Moville.
Mrs. Robert E. Peters, soloist, sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Mrs. Art B. Wilson was organist.
Honorary Casket-bearers were Messrs. Richard Howard, Robert Beeman, Randy Howard, William Beeman and Calvin Riedesel.
Casket-bearers were Messrs. Greg, Eric, Gary and Kirk Howard, Warren and Miles Riedesel.
Mrs. Howard, the former Gertrude L. Hegstrom, was born August 25, 1899, in Climbing Hill. She moved with her family to a farm west of Lawton in 1902.
She was a member of the first graduating class of Lawton High School in 1918. She married Ellis R. Howard September 21, 1918, in South Sioux City. They farmed southeast of Lawton for 57 years and moved into town July 4, 1975.
She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton and the UPW. She was a member of the Lawton Garden Club and UTD Study Club.
Mrs. Howard died Saturday, March 1, 1986 in a Sioux City hospital after a short illness.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Wayne of Moville, Bennett of Downey, California, and Robert of Sioux City; two daughters, Phyllis Beeman of Burkburnett, Texas, and Adeline Riedesel of Glidden; a brother, Philip of Sioux City; two sisters, Mildred McNaughton and Evelyn Grigg, both of Lawton; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
