George W. McNear 1903 - 1986

OTO, Iowa — George W. McNear, 83, of Oto died Saturday in a hospital in Harlingen, Texas, after a long illness.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in United Church of Christ in Oto. The Rev. Deborah Luethje will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. today in the Walter Funeral Home in Anthon.

Mr. McNear was born Feb. 26, 1903, in Woodbury County, near Anthon. He moved with his parents at the age of 7 to Grant Township. He married Marvel Howard May 25, 1925, in Sioux City. In 1944 they moved to a farm 61/2 miles northwest of Oto. Mrs. McNear died Aug. 16, 1969. He married Arlene Carman June 9, 1971, at Reseda, Calif. They had lived in Texas the last 14 winters.

Mr. McNear was a member of United Church of Christ in Oto and Farm Bureau. He was a past trustee and clerk of Grant Township and past school director of rural Grant School 5.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Wilbur of Mapleton, Ronald of Fort Gibson, Okla. and Gary of Cary, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Colsman of Aurora, Colo. and Mrs. Dale (Virginia) Hayworth of Correctionville; two stepsons, Clifford Carman and Ariel Carman, both of Anthon; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and one great-grandson.
