26 December 2000MOVILLE, Iowa — W. Howard Smith, 84, of Moville died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at a Sioux City retirement home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, Iowa, with the Rev. Bruce Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery in Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith McCulloch Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith was born March 21, 1916, in Climbing Hill, the son of Ora Guy and Paulena Louise (Hanner) Smith. He graduated from Climbing Hill High School in 1936. He married Grayce Boyer on Aug. 4, 1937. They moved to Moville in 1982. He farmed most of his life.
He was a 4-H leader and served on the school board for 17 years. He was a member of the Woodbury County Farm Bureau for many years and the Senior Center in Moville. He also carried Meals on Wheels for many years. He was a past member of First Baptist Church in Climbing Hill where he served on various boards and taught Sunday school. Currently he was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Karen Conley of Kansas City, Mo.; three sons and their wives, Howard B. and Kris Smith of Alexandria, Va., Steven C. and Lois Smith of Climbing Hill, and James M. and Diane Smith of Ames, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jackie Amundson, Kilary Kleese, Josie Teigen, Guy Smith, Shane Smith and Shannon Smith; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother.
