26 December 2000John S. Ray Jr., 82, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Sioux Valley Hospice Cottage.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m.
Mr. Ray was born May 10, 1918, in Willmar, Minn., the son of John S. and Lillie (Skoog) Ray. He moved to Sioux City as a young child. He attended school in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1937. He married Lois Afzelius on June 14, 1939, in Sioux City. He worked for Burlington Great Northern Railroad for 44 years, retiring in 1982. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1964.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Masonci Unity Lodge and the High Twelve.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Robert and Jane of Sjorewood, Minn., James and Hellen of Shakopee, Minn., and John K. and Jan of Parker, S.D.; two daughters, Diane and her husband, Dan Emmel of Plymouth, Minn., and Laurie Watt of Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother and his wife, Donald and Helen Ray of Lincoln, R.I.
