23 October 2000Glenn E. Hunnel, 45, of Sioux City died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, near Homer, Neb., from injuries sustained in an airplane crash.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dick Dahle officiating. Private burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park.
Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hunnel was born Aug. 30, 1955, in Sioux City, the son of Jack and Genevieve (Johnson) Hunnel. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from West High School in 1973. He graduated from Briar Cliff College in 1980, earning a bachelor's degree in business. He played point guard for the Briar Cliff Chargers basketball team.
He married Susan Harrington on June 14, 1980, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City. After their marriage they moved to Aurora, Colo., and then to Houston, Texas. They returned to Sioux City two-and-a-half years ago. His career began in 1980 with IBP in Dakota City, working in fats and oils sales. In 1982, he was employed by Rustco Products in Denver. In 1985, he was product manager for SYSCO Corporation in Houston. He then became senior marketing manager and later director of protein products. He advanced to senior director of the merchandising protein department. Currently, he was food service marketing manager for Ventura Foods based in Los Angeles, and was part owner and general manager of Jetsun Aviation.
He was a Sioux City Chamber of Commerce Ambassador and a member of the Sioux City Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, basketball, motorcycle riding and flying.
They were in the process of joining First Lutheran Church in Sioux City.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sara, Amy and Ashley, all of Sioux City; his mother and her husband, Genevieve and George Jacobs of Decorah, Iowa; his father and his wife, Jack I. and Iris Hunnel of Paullina, Iowa; two brothers and their wives, George L. and Debbie of Eagan, Minn., and Gary I. and Dannette of Tempe, Ariz.; a sister and her husband, Jaclyn and Dr. Keith Vollstedt of Sioux City; a brother-in-law, Bill Prince of Sioux City; his mother-in-law, Nancy Harrington of Sioux City; his father-in-law and his wife, Leonard and Mavis Harrington of Omaha; two brothers-in-law, John and his wife, Kim Harrington of Danville, Calif., and David Harrington of Los Angeles; his wife's grandmother, Stella Holcomb of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Connie Ellen; his grandparents, George and Olive Hunnel and Ruth and Leroy Johnson.
