Norma H. Townsend, 81, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at Northern Hills Retirement Community.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Kathy Olson officiating. Private graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 2 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Norma H. Townsend was born Sept. 16, 1922, in Standburg, S.D., the daughter of Ervin B. and Mable H. (Willis) Chapel.

She married Wesley Johnson in 1937 in South Sioux City. He died in 1944 in an airplane crash while serving in the military. She married Mack Townsend on June 2, 1945, in Arlington, Va. He died Dec. 20, 1981, in Texas.

Norma came to Sioux City in 1945 and had lived here since. She worked for Drs. Wiedemeier and Youngblade as an office manager for 15 years. She then worked at the Registrar's Office at the Woodbury County Courthouse and later in the office of Fred Davenport.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Lady of the Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star, Azure Chapter 540. Norma was an avid bowler.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Johnson of Elk Point, S.D., and Larry Johnson and his wife, Marilyn of Fort Wayne, Ind.; five grandchildren, Cory Johnson, Heather Bleeke, Renee Carr, Sherri Townsend and Guy Townsend; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Lee Townsend.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to Hospice of Siouxland
