28 December 2003Leonard S. Johnson, 94, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Augustana Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Del Olivier officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.
Leonard S. Johnson was born July 23, 1909, in Sioux City, the son of Peter A. and Alma (Anderson) Johnson. He went to work at the Sioux City Stockyards early in his life, first working as a commission man, and later was a partner in Frank E. Scott Commission firm, where he worked until his retirement in 1972.
He married Hilda M. Pearson on Dec. 25, 1938, in Bancroft, Neb.
He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Hilda of Sioux City; two daughters, Genell Havekost and her husband, Dale of Fort Collins, Colo., and Lois Irwin of Sioux City; two sons, Stan Johnson of Placerville, Calif., and Bruce Johnson and his wife, Jane of Carlsbad, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Helen Palmquist and Anna Bossen; a brother, Carl Johnson; and a grandson, Eric Johnson.
Memorials may be made in Leonard's name to Augustana Lutheran Church in Sioux City.
