Verlyn W. Schuldt Sr., 75, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Monahan Post 64. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Verlyn W. Schuldt Sr. was born May 22, 1928, in Wagner, S.D., the son of Otto and Goldie (Cooper) Schuldt. He attended school in Wagner and graduated from high school. Following high school, he worked at various jobs until being drafted into the military in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1951.

He married Leann Zoss on March 28, 1953, in Tripp, S.D. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1956, where he went to work for All Area Transport, retiring after 29 years of service in 1985.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sioux City and South Sioux City, the American Legion in Sioux Falls, S.D,, the Odd Fellows and the Teamsters Union Local 383 in Sioux City. He enjoyed bowling, singing, traveling and watching sports, especially baseball and the Chicago Cubs.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Leann of Sioux City; three daughters and their husbands, Carla and Mark Davidson of Belton, Mo., Tamara and Michael Anderson of Sioux City and Victoria Schuldt and Brad Dunca of Kansas City, Kan.; two sons, Randy Schuldt of Sioux City and Verlyn Schuldt Jr. and his special friend, Teri Plautz of Sioux City; two sisters and their husbands, Rita Mae and Howard Merry of Dell Rapids, S.D., and Deve and Luke Giesinner of Clear Lake, S.D.; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Karlene Schuldt; a son, Carlyne Schuldt; and a sister, Lefa June.

Pallbearers will be Daren Young, Tom Gatch, Roy Weaver, Jerry Strand, Willis Gray and Conrad Seaton. Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton McClagan and Keith Newman.
