Jerry Wayne Jones Jr., 34, of Sioux City died accidentally Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, in Sioux City.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Himell officiating. Burial will be in Elk Point City Cemetery, Elk Point, S.D. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jerry Wayne Jones Jr. was born May 31, 1969, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Jerry and Judy (Schultz) Jones Sr. He attended school in Kansas City until the family moved to Jefferson, S.D. He then attended Morningside Christian School in Sioux City. He later moved to Avon, S.D., and graduated from Avon High School in 1988.

He joined the South Dakota Army National Guard and served until December of 1994. He worked for Schrier-Larson Motors, Midstates Electric, IAMS Pet Foods and recently with Hoak Motors as a mechanic.

He married Misty Benson on May 25, 2002, at Elk Point.

Jerry's hobbies included shooting darts for Q & Feather. He also enjoyed outdoor activities including canoeing, camping, fishing, watching birds and racing cars at Park Jefferson Speedway with Ed Smith. He enjoyed music and was an accomplished musician on both the piano and trombone.

Survivors include his wife, Misty of Sioux City; his parents, Jerry Sr. and Judy Jones of Irene, S.D.; three brothers, Bret Alan Jones of Sioux City, Nathanael Paul and his wife, Angela Jones of Jacksonville, Fla., and Daron Daniel Jones of Mountain City, Tenn.; a sister, Christa Dawn and Dennis Cropper of Newark, Del.; his maternal grandmother, Pearl Schultz of Springfield, S.D.; a godson, Jacob Hansen of Sioux City; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gene and Marge Rose of McCook Lake, S.D.; two brothers-in-law, John and his wife, Lisa Hansen of Freeman, S.D., and Mike and his wife, Lavenda Hansen of Elk Point; two sisters-in-law, Stacy and her husband, John Vital of Sioux City, and Joline Benson of McCook Lake; an aunt-in-law, Rita Wynn of North Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Konrad Jones; his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Schultz; his paternal grandparents, Walter M. and Edith M. Jones; and his father-in-law, Lloyd L. Benson.

Pallbearers will be Dave Meriman, Ed Smith, Pat Brinkman, Dave Thorson, Zach Boyd and Nathanael Jones
