Eugene G. Kloeppel, 79, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Terry Templeton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mr. Kloeppel was born Jan. 10, 1924, in South Sioux City to Clarence and Eva (Winters) Kloeppel. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe from 1942 to 1946. He was an aerial gunner and obtained the rank of staff sergeant.

He married the former Y. Betty Houser on June 8, 1947, in Sioux City. He was a supervisor at Swift & Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Triangle Lodge 643 A.F. & A.M. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, camping, fishing, playing cribbage, decorating his home for the holidays and listening to hymns. But mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; a son, Jim Kloeppel and his wife, Darlene of Urbana, Ill.; two daughters, Gayle Stone and her husband, Roger, and Yvonne Church and her husband, Terry, all of Sioux City; seven grandsons, Rick Stone, Jeff Church, Mike Stone, Chris Stone, Chris Kloeppel, Jon Kloeppel and Tom Kloeppel; two granddaughters, Kimberly Church and Nicole Kloeppel and her husband, Brian Carroll; a great-grandson, Ian Carroll; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Rick Stone, Jeff Church, Mike Stone, Chris Stone, Chris Kloeppel, Jon Kloeppel and Kimberly Church.

Memorials may be directed in his name to Trinity Lutheran Church.
