Nick G. Margeas, 71, of Sioux City passed into eternal life Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital after a valiant fight with a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, with the Revs. Thomas Begley, Timothy Alikakos and Constantine Balomenos officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation with the family present will begin at 6 p.m. today, with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

Mr. Margeas was born Jan. 26, 1932, in Sioux City, the son of George and Paraskeve (Papanicolaou) Margeas. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. he attended Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Mo., then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an interpreter for the Greek Expedition Forces. He then returned from the service at graduated from Morningside College.

He married Daisy K. Vossos on April 20, 1958, in Sioux Falls, S.D. Following college, he joined the family business, operating the Coney Island with his father and brother. In 1973, he opened the Plaza Coney Island, which now operates in the Marketplace Mall. In 1980, he opened the Southern Hills Mall Coney Island and operated that until 1991. He retired April 1, 2002.

He was a member of St. Thomas Orthodox Church and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and was a 50-year member of the Order of Ahepa. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Sioux City Boat Club, Dakota Dunes Country Club and Green Valley Golf Course. He was an Eagle Scout and was awarded the Bronze, Silver and Gold Palms. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Daisy of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Patti and Dennis Little of Hendersonville, N.C.; three sons, George N. Margeas of Sioux City, Dr. Robert C. "Bob" Margeas of Des Moines and Christopher Margeas and his wife, Niki, of McCook Lake, S.D.; a brother and his wife, Steve G. and Virginia Margeas of Sioux City; and three grandchildren, Nicholas, Hannah and Clare.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be George S. Margeas, Roger Schultz, Dale Milbrodt, Gus Demetroulis, John Richou and Dennis Little. Honorary pallbearers will be Sol Murad, Howard Staber, Turk Kangal, Spior Siganos, Jerry Myers and all his golf buddies.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be directed to St. Thomas Orthodox Church sprinkler system or the Harold and Mary Bomgaars Center for Cancer Care at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center.
