Maxine E. Sager, 72, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, in Omaha following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, 3939 Cheyenne Blvd., with the Rev. Alan Wicks, pastor, and the Rev. Dick Dahle, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd.

Mrs. Sager was born June 7, 1931, in Sioux City, the daughter of Lewis and Lena Jacobsen. She was raised in Sioux City and attended Leeds High School.

She married Ross C. Sager on Feb. 10, 1951. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 10, 2001. She was employed with A.Y. McDonald, Red Owl Food Stores, later Boulevard Food Stores, and Toy National Bank, later Norwest Bank. Her most rewarding career was being a loving homemaker.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading and traveling, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Jim McWhirter and Vicky and Tom Svoboda, all of Omaha, and Lori and Keith Hasselquist of Hinton, Iowa. She also was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren, Kyle and Chris McWhirter, Kylie and Adam Svoboda and Katherine, Jacob and Andrew Hasselquist. Other survivors include two sisters, Lucille Harrison and Shirley and her husband, Bud Eaton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross C. Sager; her parents, Lewis and Lena Jacobsen; a brother, Harold Jacobsen; a sister, Ruby Suknot; and an infant granddaughter, Kara Lynn Svoboda.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Welte, Jerry Conrad, Andy Beamon, Dick Jorgensen, Jerry Haupert and Don McWhirter.

Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
