16 December 2003CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Wayne Wesley Arnburg, 81, of Correctionville passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville, with the Rev. Sheryl K. Ashley officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville.
Wayne was born May 22, 1922, in Adair, Iowa, to Oberlin and Florence (Jackman) Arnburg. He graduated from Adair High School in 1940. He entered the U.S. Coast Guard in June 1942.
He married Elnora Elaine Betts on March 3, 1943, in Omaha. The couple moved to Correctionville in 1947, and bought the Ford Dealership in 1958. He retired as a Ford dealer in 1995.
He was active in the Chamber of Commerce for many years. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion. He was very involved in planning of the golf course and was with the first group to tee off on the new course in 1961.
Since retirement, he has enjoyed life with his wife and extended family and friends, watching sports on TV, especially the Hawkeyes, golfing and particularly driving truck for his daughter, Nancy and son-in-law, Bill O'Connell. He was very involved and supportive of his town and community and was a co-owner and manager of Valley Bus Tours. He taught many of his grandchildren to drive by taking them to Little Sioux Park.
He is survived by his wife, Elnora of Correctionville; his children, Gary and Sandy Arnburg of Des Moines, Roger and Becky Arnburg of Sioux City, and Nancy and Bill O'Connell of Anthon, Iowa; grandchildren, Deb and Jerry Ruud of Wyoming, Minn., Mark and Linda Arnburg of Des Moines, Wendi and Mark Kaiser of Des Moines, Susan and Jon DeJong of Omaha, Tom Arnburg and Cora Marriott of Altoona, Iowa, Richard and Shelly Volk of Fairbanks, Alaska, Darrin and Becky Volk of Kansas City, Kan., James Volk and Crystal Wittebort of Kansas City, Kan., June and Jim Topp of Maple Grove, Minn., Scott and Wendy Arnburg of Des Moines, Keri and Jason Aschenbrenner of Laurens, Iowa, Sean and Trish Arnburg of Sioux City, Jason Arnburg stationed on the USS Thorn, Thomas and Jessica Arnburg of Kings Bay, Ga., Stacy O'Connell and Lucas Gutheridge of Fredrickburg, Texas, Jennifer and Jarrett Beeson of Correctionville, and Eric and Jennifer O'Connell of Anthon, Iowa; and great-grandchildren, Amanda, Jennifer,
Michael, Angela, Ryan, Natalie, Tyler, Taylor, Noah, Jordan, Ashley, Sidney, Brinlie, Kinsey, Sierra, DeCora, Katelynn, Benjamin, Rhianna, Carter, Kaleb, William, Brennan, Justin, Isaac, Tyler, Cameron and Hannah.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
