16 December 2003PIERSON, Iowa -- Kallie Jane Phillips, 10, of Pierson died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, of injuries suffered in a snowmobile accident.
Joint services for Kallie, her sister and two friends will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Kingsley-Pierson School gymnasium in Pierson. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Kingsley Methodist Church in Kingsley, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home.
Kallie was born March 9, 1993, in Sioux City, the daughter of Darwin and Jackie (Kovarna) Phillips. She was a social butterfly, she loved getting together with her friends and talking on the telephone. She was a good student.
She played the saxophone in the band, played the piano, was in dance, tap, jazz and clogging. She loved playing with her cousins and her dog. She played soccer and basketball.
She was a member of the Pierson Handy Helpers 4-H Club, and was delighted to be voted the reporter. She attended Methodist Church of Pierson. She enjoyed going on vacations with her family and decorated her room with Betty Boop memorabilia. She wanted to be a fashion designer when she grew up.
Left to cherish her memory are her parents, Darwin and Jackie Phillips; a sister, Jenna Phillip at home; maternal grandparents, Howard and Marjorie Kovarna of Merrill, Iowa; paternal grandparents, Claude and Martha Phillips of Pierson; aunts and uncles, Jean (Kovarna) Larson of Sioux City, Doug and Rhonda Kovarna of Hinton, Iowa, Albert and Barb Phillips of Spencer, Iowa, Vicky and Ron Hiemstra of Springfield, Mo., and Chuck and Cheryl Phillips of Apple Valley, Minn.; 10 cousins; seven great-cousins; and many friends and classmates.
Memorials may be directed to the Phillips Memorial Fund for the family of Kallie.
