16 December 2003Betty E. Lafferty, 83, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.
Private family services were held. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel.
Mrs. Lafferty was born April 2, 1920, in Sioux City, the daughter of Edwin and Tressie (Liston) Rochester. She was raised in the Riverside area and attended Central High School.
She married Lawrence Lafferty in 1941. He preceded her in death.
Following her marriage, the couple moved to the Leeds area, where she lived until moving to the nursing home.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Her life was devoted to her family and volunteerism. She was an active member of the Hawthorne Elementary PTA and was a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader for many years. She volunteered for years at St. Luke's cancer ward. Because of her former daughter-in-law Cindy Lafferty's caring and loving aid, she was able to stay in her home longer.
She is survived by three sons, David of Branson, Mo., Brian of Cumming, Iowa, and estranged son, Larry, whereabouts unknown; two daughters and their husbands, Wilma and John Curry of Riverside, Calif., and Colleen and Jerry Hamilton of Oxnard, Calif.; a former daughter-in-law, Cindy Lafferty of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Ruth and Earl Ralya of Indiana; a brother, Jim Rochester; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Edwin; and a great-grandson, Christopher.
We hope that they are all together now and that she has finally found the peace that had been lost to her these last few years.
