16 December 2003ANTHON, Iowa -- Kirk Welte, 40, of Anthon died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, on Interstate 80 near Brule, Neb.
Memorial services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.
Kirk Lindsey Welte was born Dec. 20, 1962, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, the son of Louis Joseph and Lois LaMona (Huffman) Welte. He was baptized in the Catholic faith in 1963.
He grew up in the Anthon area, where he worked at the local restaurant and grocery store. He attended Anthon-Oto Community School, graduating with the class of 1981. While in school, he helped his dad raise cattle and was active in football and the band as a drummer. He furthered his education by enrolling at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, where he received his associate's degree in the electrical program.
He lived in California for six years, in the Sacramento and South Shore areas. He worked at Hill Electric and also worked as a model and did some acting. He moved back to Anthon in 1986, where he continued in the electrical business.
He met Deb Lynn Hanson and married her in June 1993, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville, Iowa. They continued to live in Anthon, owning and operating Welte Electric.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of multiple electrical and refrigeration groups. Recent interests include traveling, metal detecting, the history of Nevada ghost towns and old maps. He loved the Pacific Ocean, particularly the Monterey, Calif., area.
He is survived by his parents, Louis Joseph and LaMona (Lois) Welte of Anthon; his wife, Debra Lynn Rahbusch Hanson Welte of Anthon; a daughter, Lindsey Marie Chettinger of Sergeant Bluff; three stepchildren, Ashley Hanson of Sioux City, Jamie Hanson and Kathrine Hanson, both of Anthon; 17-month-old twins, Sydney Ann and Jacob at home; two sisters and their husbands, Linda and John Dixon and Cindy and David "Butch" Harlow, all of Anthon; two brothers, Brad Welte of Verdi, Nev., and Steve Welte of Anthon; four nephews, Pete, Chris, Luke and Nick and their spouses; a niece, Leslie; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Betty Winter of Buffalo Center, Iowa; and many, many friends and business associates in Siouxland.
