Virginia M. Combs, 74, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Janice Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Virginia M. Combs was born Jan. 22, 1929, in South Sioux City, the daughter of George and Effie (Huffman) Clay.

She married LaVeral "Peck" Combs on Oct. 6, 1952, in Minnesota. The couple made their home in North Sioux City and later moved to Sioux City. Mr. Combs died July 31, 1988, in Sioux City.

Mrs. Combs was a housewife for 36 years and enjoyed cooking for her family. She also enjoyed working and playing bingo.

Survivors include four daughters, Linda Mason, Marline Bellis and Lori Combs, all of Sioux City, and Caroline Christensen of Omaha, Neb.; 10 sons, Darrell Hunt of South Sioux City, Gaylen Combs, Edward Combs, Mike Combs, Carl Combs, Ronnie Combs, Tommy Combs, Timmy Combs, Tracy Combs and Jeff Combs, all of Sioux City; a brother, James Clay and his wife, JoAnn of Dakota Dunes; a sister, Carole "Kate" Frye of North Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Doris Baseel of Crofton, Neb.; 28 grandchildren, including several special grandchildren who were very close to her; many great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard; a grandson; two granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; and brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Mark Combs, Mike Bellis, Jason Combs, Brad Combs, Justin Combs and Clyde "Skeeter" Barker.

The family would like to thank everybody for their prayers and support and invite them to the church for fellowship and refreshments after the committal service at Memorial Park Cemetery.
