13 April 2014SIOUX CITY | Robert D. Bonnewell, 74, of Sioux City went to be with his Heavenly Father on April 10, 2014, surrounded by family and friends at a local hospital.
A private family celebration of life and a public memorial service will be held Memorial Day weekend, with details to be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Robert was born Oct. 16, 1939, in Belva, Okla., to Norris and Valeria (Daniels) Bonnewell. He lived in Deer Creek and Alva, Okla., until 1960. He married Karen Seibert in Goodland, Kan., on April 10, 1960.
Robert had many talents. He worked as a body and fender man rebuilding cars. He also did construction work building schools and elevators. He found the career he loved when he became district manager for Farmers Insurance Group in 1975 and moved to Sioux City. In 1985 he became an insurance adjuster with Storm Appraisal Service in Kansas City until his retirement in 2007. Following retirement, he also worked with Cunningham Auto Body and Richard’s Auto Salon in Kansas City until 2010, when he returned to Sioux City.
Bob had many interests which included hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Bonnewell; son, Lee and Mary Beth Bonnewell of Andover, Kan.; daughters, Pat Evans and Shane Roy and Cindy and Rod Kennedy, all of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Michelle Bonnewell of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Barb and Lynda; son, Roger; brothers, Clint, Kermit and Carlos; and sister, Olive Merritt.
