13 April 2014SIOUX CITY | Carmelita L. "Carm" Rosenbaum, 78, of Sioux City died Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Bickford Memory Care after a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Carmelita was born Sept. 7, 1935, in Sioux City, the daughter of Joseph Frank and Katherine T. (Tantillo) LaScala. After graduating from Bishop Heelan High School in 1954, she worked at Younker-Davidson’s in the millinery department.
On Sept. 14, 1957, she married Marvin R. Rosenbaum at St. Joseph Church in Sioux City. Together they owned and operated Heald’s Grocery Store from 1979 to 1983. Her most rewarding job was being a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Carmelita was proud of her Italian heritage. She was a great cook and made the best sauces for pasta. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and was proud of her computer skills.
Carmelita led a very spiritual life. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she served on the Ladies Guild and volunteered for various church organizations. She also volunteered at the Queen of Peace.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, Tina and Chris Redfern of Mason City, Iowa, Teri and Terry Cook of Sioux City, and Tony and Ronda Rosenbaum of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Robert (Tori) Redfern, Katie Redfern, Christopher Redfern, Trisha (Jerry) Knutson, T.J. Rosenbaum and Tyler Rosenbaum; five great-grandchildren, Kylie Knutson, Kacy Knutson, Kody Knutson, Zane Redfern and Corbyn Redfern; two brothers-in-law and their wives; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and infant brother, August LaScala.
Memorials may be made in her name to the Alzheimers Association or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
