11 December 2003Dick J. Visser, 77, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery, Sheldon, Iowa. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.
Mr. Visser was born Nov. 1, 1926, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the son of John and Pietje Neliie (VanWoumlen) Visser. He grew up in the Sheldon, Iowa area and attended Sheldon schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He then worked for the railroad.
He married Delores M. Huck on May 2, 1949, in Sheldon. He was an owner/operator over-the-road truck driver. He then went to work for the Big 4 Soybean Processing Plant in Sheldon. In 1975, the couple moved to Sioux City and he worked for AGP Soybean Processing Plant, retiring in 1989. He then worked for Lantier Currier Service until 1995.
He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sheldon. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Delores of Sioux City; a daughter, Debra Hafits of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, David J. and Tracy Visser of LaPlace, La., and Dennis J. and Robin Visser of Littleton, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Edith Visser of Sheldon; and six grandchildren, Andrea and Justin Visser, Carrie Jo Hafits and Amanda, Drew and Hannah Visser.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and three sisters.
Pallbearers will be Delmar Johnson, Bill Snyder, Bob Visser, Daryl Rozenboom, Allen Mouw, Doug Martin, Terry McCarthy and Bruce Huddleston.
