Grace W. Power, 104, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Countryside Retirement Home in Sioux City.

Her body was donated to University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City. Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Grace was born in Sioux City on July 7, 1899, to John and Mary Dussing. Her mother died when she was only 8 years old. Her father and aunt, Hannah, raised her. Her aunt did not want her to attend school. Her brother, Frank, convinced their aunt to allow her to be educated. Since then she had been a lifelong learner. She is a graduate of Central High School, Sioux City Normal School and Des Moines University. She taught school for 10 years in Siouxland, and later she was a sales representative of Educational Materials and The Grade Teacher Magazine for 29 years.

She married John F. Power on April 27, 1931. He was a prominent attorney until his death in June 1960.

She had many accomplishments in her life. She traveled abroad studying the religions of the world. She traveled to Russia five times with the Promoting Enduring Peace Organization. She learned a few words of each language in the countries she traveled in. She complied many scrapbooks and diaries of her world travels. She was an avid swimmer. She swam in five continents and taught swimming lessons in Leeds. She was active in the Unity and Christian Science Churches. Between the years of 1933 and 1942, she is recorded to have completed almost 3,000 crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her nieces, nephews and cousins.
