Robert "Bob" John Goeden, 57, of Sioux City died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at home with his family following a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Robert "Bob" John Goeden was born Feb. 26, 1946, in Hartington, Neb., the son of Robert W. and Arlene (Martin) Goeden. He attended school in Hartington and graduated from Cedar Catholic High School in 1964. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1964 and was a pipefitter on the USS Coral Sea and served in the Vietnam conflict.

He married Marilyn Hoebelheinrich on Sept. 5, 1970, in Yankton, S.D. The couple made their home in Sioux City, where he was employed with Wilson Trailer from 1970 to 1973 and then with Missouri Valley Machinery until the business closed in 1982. Bob had a furniture refinishing business from 1982 to 1984, and was with Consolidated Freightways running the Yankton route until the company closed in September 2002. Many people knew him as the "candy man" on his delivery route. He then worked for Countryside Retirement Home as a maintenance supervisor until January 2003.

He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his two grandsons, Jaylen and Van. He enjoyed fishing, boating and camping as well as helping other people.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Sioux City; a son, Brian and his wife, Cara Goeden of Sioux City; a daughter, Jill and her husband, Chad Rees of Sioux City; two grandsons, Jaylen and Van Rees of Sioux City; his mother, Arlene Goeden of Yankton; four brothers, Dick and his wife, Vonnie Goeden of Farmington, N.M., Monte and his wife, Denise Goeden of Yankton, Greg Goeden of Durango, Colo., and Bill and his wife, Cheri Goeden of Moville, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Bud" Goeden; his paternal grandparents, Boniface and Mary Goeden; his maternal grandparents, John and Ricka Martin; and two sisters, Becky Bovero and Linda Diane Goeden.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Boatman, Brad King, Nelson Henry, Gordon Pynn, Chuck Haugen and Mark Protexter.

The family suggests memorials to Midwest Community Credit Union, 1909 Old So. Palmetto, Sioux City, IA 51106.
