3 December 2003OTO, Iowa -- Frieda M. Paulsen, 91, of Oto died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Harvest Morningside Nursing Home in Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Climbing Hill, Iowa, with the Rev. Lee Mentink officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa, following the funeral lunch at the church. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.
Frieda M. Paulsen was born Jan. 25, 1912, in rural Anthon, the daughter of John Henry and Anna (Beyer) Sands.
On Sept. 6, 1933, she was united in marriage to Paul F. Paulsen Sr. in Sioux City. The couple farmed in the Anthon and Climbing Hill area. Paul died Jan. 3, 1996.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She like gardening, sewing and cooking. She loved being with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons, Henry Paulsen Jr. of Hornick, Iowa, Paul Paulsen Jr. and his wife, Ruth of Oto, and Walt Paulsen and his wife, Linda of Anthon; a daughter and her husband, Alice and Larry Kollbaum of Sergeant Bluff; two brothers and their wives, Walter and Vivian Sands of Butterfield, Minn., and John and Darlene Sands of Moville, Iowa; a sister, Mary Ketelsen of Smithland, Iowa; two granddaughters and their husbands, Lynette and Norman Hanson and Jodie and Derek Baier; eight grandsons, David Paulsen and his wife, Denise, Dan Paulsen and his wife, Michelle, Kurt Paulsen and his wife, Katie, Karl Paulsen, Mike Paulsen, Aaron Kollbaum and his wife, Marla, Allan Kollbaum and his wife, Traci, and Bryan Paulsen and his wife, Jennifer; 18 great-grandchildren, Jesse, Josh and Jared Hanson, Sidnie Baier, Marisa, Megan, Jared, Danielle, Levi, Landan, Austin, Colten, Madison, Jessica and Austin Paulsen and Ashley, Logan and Presston Kollbaum; along with several other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Annie Bolte; six brothers, Albert, Louie, Rudolph, Fred, "Oscar" and an infant brother; an infant granddaughter, Caron; and an infant grandson, Randall.
