3 December 2003LaVonne W. Sorensen, 77, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steven W. Brodersen officiating. Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5:30 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 6 p.m., at Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sorensen was born Sept. 25, 1926, in South Dakota, the daughter of Steven and Elizabeth "Betty" (Jilg) Kohls. She was raised in Nebraska and graduated from Wynot (Neb.) High School.
She married La Verle "Ted" L. Sorensen on Sept. 14, 1946, in Wynot. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1946. She worked for Sioux City Battery in the 1940s, then went to work for Younkers Department Store in 1960. She worked as a saleslady in the music department. She retired in 1980. Mr. Sorensen died June 11, 2003, in Sioux City.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar Society. The couple were both avid bowlers. She loved working in the garden, either flowers or vegetables. She also enjoyed her dogs.
She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Donna and Ron Blades of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Richard and Marlys Sorensen of Sioux City; four sisters and their husbands, Cleone and Doug Schultz of California, Joyce and Michael Topf of Sioux City, Mardell and Bill Coleman of Bellevue, Neb., and Linda and John Mitchell of California; a brother and his wife, Nolan and Natalle Kohls of California; six grandchildren, Roxanne and her husband, Don Meisner of Sioux City, Robert Blades and his fiancee, Deanne Silbernagel of Sioux City, Roger Blades and his fiancée, Jamie Connick of La Vista, Neb., Shannon Sorensen of Sioux City, Mark Sorensen and his wife, Rachael of Sioux City, and Eric Sorensen of Sioux City; five great-grandchildren, Rachel and Alex Meisner, both of Sioux City, Kaleb and Trenton Sorensen, both of Sioux City, and Brianna Fuehrer of Elk Point, S.D.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Robin Blades and Angela Sorensen; a sister, Phyllis Sorensen; and two brothers, Larry and Steve Kohls.
Pallbearers will be Robert and Roger Blades, Shannon, Mark and Eric Sorensen and Don Meisner.
