Gary Eugene Bowers passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at his home in Decatur, Nebraska at the age of 55 years, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 15, 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Decatur with Rev. Philip Sloat officiating.

Ethelyn Brewer served as organist and Larry Mussack as soloist.

Casket bearers were Lawrence McDermott, Shane McDermott, Dean McDermott, Dan McDermott, Steve Welte, and Shon Cunningham. Honorary casket bearers were Kevin Crilly, Kurt Crilly, Steve Pierce, Dan Pierce, Denny Bowers, Pat Peters, Kristi Crilly and Rick Crilly. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur, Nebraska under the direction of Palan Funeral Service.

A prayer service will be held on Monday March 14, 7 p.m. at Palan Funeral Home in Tekamah.

Gary was born June 9, 1955, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Ernest C. and Lottie (Kisting) Bowers. He grew up in Anthon, Iowa.

On May 27, 1978, he married Jeanice Curry in Decatur, Nebraska. They made their home in Decatur and had three daughters, Anna Lynn, Janet Marie and Linda Jean.

Gary worked at Tyson, formerly IBP, at Dakota City, Nebraska for 35 years. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed fishing. Many times you could find Gary and his girls fishing down at the river. Gary and his family also enjoyed camping and they spent many of their vacations camping in the last year while at home. Gary became addicted to playing Farmville. He also enjoyed Linda's dog, Jaxson, and loved when they came to visit and go for a fishing day.

Gary was a loving husband and father, he will be missed . . . . he's gone fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanice of Decatur; daughters, Anna of Lincoln, Janet and fiancé, Andrew Anderson, of Norfolk, Linda of Lincoln; sisters, JoAnn Pierce of Correctionville, Iowa, LaDonna and Rick Crilly of Anthon, Iowa; mother-in-law, Sara Curry of Decatur; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Sara Curry of Bonney Lake, Washington; six nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
